History of the Nigerian Mass Media will teach students the great man, technological chronological and contextual approaches to media history. I will reveal to students the events, personalities and factors that provided the context for the emergence of the press in Nigeria. In the course, students will learn popular Nigerians who laid strong foundation for the establishment and development of the mass media there.  The course presents the history of the mass media; the Nigerian context. The units in this course will highlight the inception and development of various newspapers from the nineteen century to the past-independence era. Students will be taught the major newspapers as well as the proprietors whose ideas shaped the policies of those media. Students will also learn how some personalities sacrificed their time, money and pleasure to innovate media measures in order to fight the colonial monster.
